Sounds like the cnc is closing the pprt while there's still a few bytes of data in transit. Probably just an empty line or blank tape.

In the DNC setup is an option Transmit (tx) timeout. That is peobably set to 'never' which tells it to wait forever.

Try changing the timeout to 5 seconds.
