Topic: fanuc Om drip feed glitches

By: carl A | Posted on: Mar 31 2014 at 09:05:43 PM | Good evening men,
firstly I have had my Om control reprogramed to drip and
I have recently installed easy dnc 4.7, when I send the program I am getting a sporadic 085 alarm, [communication] I have turned the Baud rate down and it does not appears to be any better,[1200 currently]
the sample program is 1'950 ish lines long , I can run a smaller program no bother, but it just seems to trip up on the longer stuff, somethimes it will get nearly to the end and other times 300 lines in before the 085 alarm
these are my settings
com port 5
xon xoff
data bits 7
strop bits 2
parity even
block end crlf
block delay 10 milliseconds
step size smooth,
any pointers would be great help as I really need to get this working
regards carl

Windows control panel > system > hardware > Device manager > Ports Com&Lpt.
Select the relevant com port then go to Port Settings > Advanced
You see sliders and checkboxes. Slide down to zero and uncheck the boxes to disable FiFO.
Next thing to look at is the block delay. Try a bigger number.

I think the lead may not be quite right, I have looked at the wiring drawing for the OM , mine is different, it does not have 20 connected to 6 and 8, it also has pin 8 connected by a blob of solder the pin opposite and below it on the other row, does this sound right,

They're quite common but not all machines need them to be connected. If there was a problem with those then the cnc would throw an alarm before even starting. So i think we can assume they're ok and Nothing to do with (085) alarm.
The 085 mid way through the program sounds like a buffer overflow.
When the alarm occurs. Does the DNC computer stop feeding or does it keep feeding all the way to 100% even though the cnc has stopped ?

By: Guest2 | Posted on: Apr 12 2014 at 08:42:08 PM | Maybe try easydnc v5.
No need to remove 4.7 you can install v5 on the same computer and you'll have both version icons on your desktop so can try v5 and go back to 4.7 if it doesn't work for you.
What the previous reply said about block delay though is certainly worth trying.
By: carl | Posted on: Apr 15 2014 at 10:27:23 PM | gents, I tried increasing block delay up to just over 100 ms , it is still 085 error ing sporadically. next set of ideas eagerly awaited

By: Guest | Posted on: Apr 16 2014 at 11:10:14 PM | not yet, I have spent most of my time running the machine as is and trying different settings to no avail, I will try the v5 version when I get a minute and get my head around it,
cheers men keep the ideas coming lol.

When the cnc sends a stop Command then the dnc software stops send but the data in the usb buffer often cant be stopped.
Some usb devices are better quality and handle the flow control onboard.
These usb things only cost a couple of dollars so buy a few different makes/models.
